Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have been cast in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling romance book "It Ends With Us," Variety has reported.
Baldoni is expected to direct and executive produce the movie under his Wayfarer Studios label, which is co-financing, and it is now in development at Sony Pictures. Lively, together with Hoover, Steve Sarowitz, and Andrew Calof, is also an executive producer. Along with Jamey Heath, who will produce on behalf of Wayfarer Studios, Alex Saks will produce for Saks Picture Company. The current film's screenplay was written by Christy Hall ("I Am Not Okay With This"), who will also serve as producer.
Lily, a young woman from a rural town, travels to Boston to launch her own company in "It Ends With Us." She and neurosurgeon Ryle hit it off right away, but his "total antipathy to relationships is unnerving," according to the book's description. "Lily can't help but wonder what made him that way in the first place, even as she finds herself breaking his "no dating" rule. Her first love and a reminder of the past she left behind, Atlas Corrigan, comes to mind as uncertainty about her new relationship overwhelms her. He served as both her ally and defender. Everything Lily and Ryle have created is under danger as Atlas arrives out of nowhere.
With more than 20 million volumes sold last year, Hoover is currently the best-selling novelist in the United States. He wrote five of the ten best-selling books in any genre. With nearly 90 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, "It Ends With Us" finished 2022 as the best-selling print book. As a consultant on the movie, Hoover has been extensively collaborating with Baldoni and Wayfarer.
Lively, who is best known for her roles in the movies "A Simple Favor" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and on the TV show "Gossip Girl," made her directing debut with Taylor Swift's "I Bet You Think About Me" music video last year. With "Seconds," a graphic book adaptation written and produced by Edgar Wright and Marc Platt, she will make her feature film directorial debut.
The co-founder of Wayfarer Studios, whose goal is to "produce purpose-driven, multi-platform film and television projects that uplift and speak to the human spirit," is former "Jane the Virgin" actress Baldoni. He most recently oversaw the direction of "Five Feet Apart" and "Clouds" under the label.
Hall is preparing to make her directorial debut with "Daddio," starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, which is now in post-production. Hall also co-created and executive produced the Netflix comedy "I Am Not Okay With This." The script for the Sony movie based on Liane Moriarty's "The Husband's Secret," starring Lively, is also written by her.
WME, Entertainment 360, Vision PR, Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, as well as others, represent Lively. Attorney Miles Metcoff at Yorn Levine, CAA, Grandview, and Hall all represent Hall. Baldoni is represented by Jonesworks and WME.
