Stephanie Delpe, an insurance executive, was chatting at a networking event in a Newark hotel in the fall of 2016 when a dashing man came up to her.

Delpe remarked to The Post, "He looked pricey." He said, "I just flew into Teterboro," referring to the posh Teterboro, New Jersey airport where private aircraft land.

The guy identified himself as William Benson and regaled Delpe with tales of his past as a prosperous businessman who had established his own champagne brand, Billionaires Row. He also claimed to have worked at Goldman Sachs and to be the manager of an investment fund.

Within a few weeks, Delpe was involved in a passionate relationship with the dashing, well-dressed businessman who frequently posted on social media about his acquaintance with Mayor Eric Adams.

Delpe and many other people have since told The Post that Benson, 39, conned them out of their money, and they assert that he omits the mayor's name to look impressive.

She first didn't have any reason to question Benson's account, especially after looking at his social media pages, where he promotes his connections to celebrities like Ja Rule and Gayle King, the Kardashians, and Hillary Clinton. Even now, Mayor Adams is one of the persons featured most prominently on Benson's Instagram feed, which has a boldface cast.

Over the course of their year-long relationship, Delpe and Benson dined at glitzy Big Apple establishments like Tao and once took a private plane to Texas.
