The Nottingham City Ground Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the first leg of their semifinal, moving closer to their first Carabao Cup final since 2016/17.
For United, who are trying to break a six-year trophy drought, the night belonged to Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst, and Bruno Fernandes. For Forest, meantime, to have any hope of reaching a first final since 1991/92, they will need a major upset in next week's return leg at Old Trafford, where they lost 3-0 in the league one month ago.
Kickoff at this storied riverside venue was met with a thunderous atmosphere; recent visits by "Big Six" opponents have not been kind to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, while Chelsea was fortunate to escape with a tie.

Rashford quickly drained that energy, though, as the England international kept up his incredible run of form. Rashford grabbed the ball in his own half and sped down the left wing before breaking between two Forest players and putting the ball in at the near post to score his tenth goal in as many games.
He exudes confidence and was Erik ten Hag's team's obvious out-ball throughout the first half. Rashford looked like a tremendous threat whenever he had the ball, and as he demonstrated on Sunday against league leaders Arsenal, the unstoppable power is currently sending shivers through every defense in the nation.
However, United was unable to take advantage and Forest was able to reenter the game. With some exquisite passes and amazing dynamism on the transition, Morgan Gibbs-White started to control the action as only he can for the Reds. The resurrected Casemiro, who will be having nightmares about Gibbs-White after being dispossessed and repeatedly burst past, was fought off by him with tenacity.
But as is frequently the case, Steve Cooper's team lacked a competitive edge to match the effort. The one time they did manage to score—through Sam Surridge, who was obviously passed in by Gibbs-White—VAR disallowed it for offside.
Weghorst then almost probably took this tie past Forest before the half. An incensed Antony flicked the ball to set himself up for a shot on the outside of the penalty box, but Wayne Hennessy stopped it — filling in for the outstanding Dean Henderson, who was unable to play tonight against his parent club. When the rebound dropped at Weghorst's feet, he buried it thoroughly without making a mistake.
The entire time, Lisandro Martinez and company dealt effectively with any threats posed by the Forest, with the Argentine in particular remaining unaffected by anything thrown his way. Just when Forest's assault was beginning to find its rhythm and cohesiveness a few weeks ago, Taiwo Awoniyi's injury and the signings of Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo in midfield—as brilliant as they are—mean another difficult time of adaptation.
The second half went by without incident, save for Christian Eriksen striking the crossbar, as United were willing to suffocate the game and Forest provided little nothing, much to the chagrin of the home crowd.
This continued up until the 89th minute, when United eventually picked up the pace and Fernandes ended the match. Facundo Pellistri made two rapid passes down the middle, but Anthony Elanga, a fellow youthful substitute, ultimately stopped his second attempt. Running in from the right, the winger found Fernandes in a startling amount of space, and the Portuguese forward scored with a low first-time attempt.
When Forest welcomes Leeds United here a week from Sunday, the Premier League's relegation fight will be on their minds. The Red Devils visit Reading this weekend in the FA Cup's fourth round, and the return leg will undoubtedly be a formality.

Regarding the performance "From a results standpoint, we made a strong, noticeable comeback. The concert, in my opinion, lasted around 90 minutes. We must avoid the one situation when the outcome may have been altered. It's an opportunity to learn how to build a top-notch team.
"We played really well on the ball for the opening 20 minutes and controlled the game. Excellent goal, Rashy once more. After the goal, we had a few fantastic chances to win, but we let them almost tie the score. That is not possible.
"The second half was far better and calmer. We gave ourselves opportunities while never allowing them to counter. Prior to the break, 2-0 was significant. We got Weghorst because to Antony's excellent action and the rebound he provided as the attacker."

Regarding Antony, I thought he performed admirably. He had terrific body, strong motions, and good reading between the lines. Although there was a terrific combination, he still had to score.
"The hardest aspect is getting the frontline to be more dynamic, which is what we wanted to see more of. But today and in the previous couple of games, I noticed some excellent moves. With that, I'm content.
"There are more guys performing incredibly well, but I'm satisfied with Marcus, his performance, and his progress," said the coach of Rashford. He has been growing since the beginning of the season and will continue to do so. He is in charge of ensuring that this process continues. In this regard, I consider .him to be unstoppable.
