Officials said that the primary suspect in a horrific mass shooting who was located inside a white cargo truck in Torrance has passed away.
He was said to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the inquiry.
As police looked for a shooter who opened fire at a Monterey Park dance studio, killing 10 people and injuring 10, they encircled the white cargo van early on Sunday morning in a Torrance parking lot across from the Del Amo shopping center.
The van, which was found in a parking lot close to Del Amo Fashion Center, matched the description of a car wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in the community of Monterey Park in the San Gabriel Valley about 30 miles to the northeast as well as another incident that happened in the neighborhood of Alhambra.
In the mall parking area, the van was obstructed in front and behind by two armored SWAT cars. There seemed to be a broken window on a vehicle.
The van's steering wheel was occupied by a man who looked to be immobile.
Later, it was revealed that Huu Can Tran, 72, was the primary suspect.
At after 1 p.m., a SWAT team broke a passenger-side glass and entered the van roughly an hour after the vehicle had been encircled by police.

A white cargo vehicle was reportedly observed by witnesses leaving the crime scene in Alhambra late on Saturday. Just minutes after the fatal shooting at a dance studio in Monterey Park, authorities were called to that place, a dance hall.
"We had a van that was deemed to be of interest, "Robert Luna, the sheriff, stated. "Additionally, in the city of Torrance, there is a vehicle that resembles the one that was described to us.
"Possibly our suspect, then. Possibly, "During a press conference, Luna had said.
The reason was not yet evident.
